Startup and Shutdown Rituals for Teachers

We all know teachers have so much to do with not a lot of time to do it.  We are constantly looking for ways to try to do things more efficiently and do more with less. I have recently been learning about Marketing from Amy Porterfield and I downloaded a free workbook about “Design your Stress-Free Work Day using Startup and Shutdown Rituals.” This was meant for bloggers and entrepreneurs but I immediately noticed this is exactly what I need as a teacher.

By organizing our tasks throughout the day, we can complete more by being more efficient by focusing our attention on one specific task. Did you know that Multitasking is a myth? We think we are multitasking but we are actually doing multiple task switches throughout the task we are trying to complete. So by focusing on one task at a time, we will accomplish more.

What are Startup and Shutdown rituals? They are rituals or routines that you complete every day before or after the school day begins to get you set, ready, and focused for the day After school, it gives you routines to close down your day and manage to feel prepared and ready for tomorrow and be able to leave your work at work.

I have created a printable for you to have some ideas about what some of your start-up and shutdown rituals should be. After reading through them, I have made a printable list that you can print out and make your own rituals.

In the document, I refer to the Intentional Teacher Planner. Please check it out here, it has helped me a lot in my teaching practice.
